• Is this only for Interventional Cardiologists?
No.
The ABIM PIM points can be awarded to any cardiologist who participated in D2B. The ABIM PIM points are valid for recertification in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and/or Interventional Cardiology.
• Can more than one cardiologist at each hospital who participated in D2B claim ABIM PIM points?
Yes.
All cardiologists who participated in D2B can claim ABIM PIM points.
• How long are the PIM points valid for?
ABIM PIM points are valid for up to 10 years.
• How long does my hospital have to participate in D2B before I can claim PIM points?
Each facility must participate in D2B for at least 3 months before cardiologists can claim ABIM PIM points for D2B participation.
• Is there a deadline to claim PIM points?
Since awarding ABIM PIM points thru ACC D2B is a pilot project for 2007 and will undergo evaluation, we encourage all cardiologists who participated in D2B to claim their ABIM PIM points by December 31, 2007. This pilot may or may not be available beyond 2007.
• Can my hospital still sign up for D2B and get PIM points?
Yes.
• Can I also get CME in addition to the PIM points?
Yes.
Physicians and nurses who participated in D2B can claim
20 CME credits in addition to 20 ABIM PIM points. Please

• Does this apply to emergency medicine physicians?
No.
At this time the recertification process for emergency medicine physicians is different than that for ABIM. We are striving to work with emergency medicine professional organizations moving forward to determine what would benefit their membership.
